SSBS #001: We’ve been doing it all wrong. ! My #1 trick to get perfect skin.

Welcome Friend! Today I’m going to teach you HOW TO FIND YOUR SKIN TYPE in under 5 minutes.

Why is this important?  You’ll save time, money, and you’ll be equipped with the tools to forever check in with your skin.  You’ll know what your skin needs, and save countless hours and headaches trying products that aren’t right for you.

If saving time, money, and getting glowing skin sounds good to you, read on.

Unfortunately, so many people never take the time to actually get to know their skin, and end up unhappy with their results.  Why? Most of us want a QUICK FIX.  Or we see the latest influencer pushing a product and try it without pausing to think if it’s right for US.

Trust me friend, the pause is worth it when picking products for your skin!

Not all products are for every skin type.

Our skin is constantly changing (yes our skin types can change!) and if we aren’t sure how to tune in, then we just aren’t going to see the results we want.

Here’s the deal:

  • Our skin is constantly changing due to hormones, weather, stress, food sensitivities, aging, genetics, medication, hydration and so much more and it can feel hard to understand

  • We feel like finding our skin type is too difficult for a “regular” person

  • We often want a quick fix and feel like we don’t have time to dive deeper

  • Using products that don’t support your skin type or skin needs can lead to frustration with skincare in general

I know you’re probably nodding your head along with all of these statements, but don’t worry my friend, I GOTCHU.  I’m going to make it easy, straightforward and worth the pause.

Here's how, step by step:

Step 1: The 1 hour test

The 1 hour test allows us to determine our natural skin type without the influence of products, creams, makeup, etc.   This is how we’ll find out your skin's current natural type.

Here’s what to do:

  1. Cleanse your face with the most gentle cleanser you can find - then gently pat dry.

  2. Do not apply any skincare products to your face

  3. After an hour has passed we’re going to check in with our skin, let’s see how next!

Step 2: Grab your mirror and take notes

So many people get this step wrong by not waiting the full hour. Trust me, don’t rush this part.

  1. Grab your mirror, sit down, and start looking at your skin

  2. Jot down what you see and how your skin FEELS

  3. Some keywords to get you going: dry, flaky, oily, tight, shiny, location of oils, itchy, red, inflamed, pores, fine lines, blemishes, normal, dull, glowing

Step 3: Find your skin type

You’re almost there! You’ve now got all of the information you need to confidently determine your skin type.  Let’s see where you fall!

  • Normal - well balanced skin, not too oily or too dry with little to no blemishes or irritation

  • Combination - areas of both oily and dry skin, usually oily in T-zone area, may have some larger pores, blackheads or blemishes

  • Oily - oily and shiny all over, may be prone to blackheads, whiteheads, acne/blemishes and clogged pores

  • Dry - dry, flaky, tight, may have rough patches or skin may feel dull, skin could be itchy

  • Sensitive - irritated, redness, inflammation, can feel hot or dry as well, tone can appear uneven and/or bumpy

Now that you know your skin type, think of all the future time and money you will save on products that aren’t right for you!
