The Creamiest Homemade Hot Chocolate Ever

blog post-9.png

I’ve been sitting on this hot chocolate recipe for years, mostly because I just don’t measure $h%& EVER. Like ever. I guess that’s the making of a true hobbyist cook eh??? Every year we make this hot cocoa when the weather starts getting colder (i.e. 70 degrees vs. 100) and it never fails to be a family favorite. But here’s the thing, this hot chocolate is THE creamiest, THE dreamiest, THE most DECADENT hot chocolate EVER. So don’t go thinking you’re going to be drinking a low cal version of this holiday drink. That’s like choosing Selena Gomez when you could have Beyonce. No offense to Selena Gomez and all (I can jam to your songs baby girl!) but BEYONCE.

This recipe serves about two regular sized mugs, so feel free to scale it if you’re feeding a group and it will not disappoint! You can absolutely sub your milk of choice, but if you can do dairy, I highly suggest doing dairy for this one! Nothing beats that creamy richness! I keep the sugar content low-ISH (for my standards at least!) only because I highly recommend drinking this with homemade marshmallows, which tends to make it sweeter!

Without further ado, feast your eyes on THE creamiest, dreamiest, homemade hot chocolate ever.

The Creamiest Homemade Hot Chocolate Ever

Serves: 2

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup whole milk (sub coconut milk if desired)

  • 1 cup heavy cream (sub coconut cream if desired)

  • 4 tbsps cocoa powder

  • 1/8 cup maple syrup (you can add more if you want a sweeter cocoa)

  • Homemade Marshmallows

Directions:

  1. In a medium sized saucepan, add all of your ingredients except for the marshmallows.

  2. Turn the stove on medium high heat, and whisk continually to incorporate your ingredients and prevent the milk from burning

  3. Bring to a low boil (while continually whisking), then turn off stove and remove saucepan from burner.

  4. Carefully pour into mugs, and serve with marshmallows, peppermint sticks, or any other topping you’d like.
